Flower Arrangers

Have you ever wondered about the floral displays seen in our churches?

Floral displays are used to enhance and highlight the beauty of the church or the season.  They are used to help set the tone of the service.  Fresh, vibrant flowers and greenery reflect the seasons and the church's message throughout the year.  The colours and the displays, just like the colours of the altar frontals, will vary - reflecting not just the season in nature but the church year.

Perhaps, you are interested in flower arranging and would like to join the team, or perhaps you are getting married and starting to think about flowers?

We are happy to be consulted by brides planning their weddings in our churches to discuss ways in which we can assist in co-ordinating the church floral arrangements for their special day.  Prices are on application. The flower team do not charge for their time, only the flowers, greenery and floral sundries.

In addition, we are always very pleased to create a floral arrangement in memory of a loved one or to celebrate an anniversary or other important event.   The cost of the flowers is agreed individually.  If you would like to mark a special occasion in this way, please contact the Flower Team Leader.

Flowers at St John's

Flower arrangerSt John’s Church has a team of 7 flower arrangers who work on a voluntary basis decorating the church for worship.  The flower arrangers all work on a fortnightly rota (except during Lent and Advent when there are no flowers in church) taking it in turns to be responsible for creating flower arrangements in church and looking after these by watering and dead heading etc.  The flower arrangements usually consist of an altar pedestal display at the front of the church and a smaller arrangement in the west window at the back of church.  In addition, the flower team all come together to decorate the whole church for the church’s major festivals, when there are more arrangements around the church and there is always a friendly atmosphere on these occasions.

We are an enthusiastic, friendly, supportive team who enjoy flower arranging as part of our ministry and we are always pleased to welcome new members.  No professional flower arranging experience is necessary, just passion for flowers and willingness to help.  Each flower arranger brings their own creativity and we have all learned by taking part and supporting each other. If you feel you would like to be involved in the flower ministry or would like to discuss wedding or memorial flowers, please contact Felicity Rudd, Flower Team Leader telephone 01256 764677.

The flowers below are selection of those used at Christmas, inside the church was decorated with red roses and greenery.  The same colours were used to make table decorations which were sold at St John's.
