Craft Group Poppies

The Craft group have been knitting poppies, if you look at the Gallery, you can see more examples from our Remembrance displays.

If you would like to make poppies, these are the instructions:

Easy Garter Stitch Poppy

Red double knit wool, 3.75mm or no 10 needles, black button for centre

Cast on 70 stitches.

Knit 8 rows in garter stitch

Rows 9-11: knit 2 together across the row.  9 stitches remain.  Cut yarn leaving a tail of about 15cm.  Thread tail through yarn needle, slip all remaining stitches onto the yarn and pull tight.

Pull round into a circle, and stitch seam.

Sew a button in the middle.

Crochet Poppy

Red double knit wool, 3.50mm crochet hook, black button for centre

Cast on loop method.

3 chain stitch ( 1 treble ),  9 treble, pull centre loop tight, slip stitch into 3rd chain.  3 chain

1 treble into same stitch as chain, continue 2 treble into each space, slip stitch into 3rd chain. 3 chain.

2 treble into same stitch as chain, continue 3 trebles into each space, slip stitch into 3rd chain. 3 chain.

1 treble into same stitch as chain, continue 2 treble into each space, slip stitch into 3rd chain.

cast off, sew button into centre.
