St. John’s is in vacancy.
What does vacancy mean?
It means that the position of parish priest is currently vacant. Rev Canon Marion de Quidt has retired after 10 years of service in Whitewater Benefice. We are now in the period before a new vicar arrives.
Is that Normal?
Yes! This is how the process works in the Church of England. We allow time before and during the recruitment of a new vicar. A fallow period for the church to reflect on who we are, explore a vision of the future, and who might be the new priest to support us on the journey.
So what happens now?
Service as Usual. As much as possible we continue with the established rhythms of church life. We will welcome visiting priests to come and lead services of Holy Communion.
Who’s in charge?
The Churchwardens, Samantha and Russell, will steer the ship during vacancy. This is only possible with the support of a very able crew, the PCC and lay ministers, and perhaps most importantly all of the volunteers who lead and support the many activities and clubs in and around our church community.
St. John’s
A church is first the people, second the building. St. John’s is a Kingdom space, a relational space where people come together in common-unity to worship, support one another to grow in faith, and support the wider community.
Holy Communion in Vacancy
During the vacancy we will have Holy Communion as follows:
1st Sunday - 8.30am | Holy Communion (BCP - Book of Common Prayer) |
2nd Sunday - 10am | Sung Eucharist with choir & junior church |
3rd Sunday - 6pm | our evening worship will be Holy Communion |
4th Sunday - 10am | Holy Communion with choir and junior church |
