Community Garden@St John's

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it” Psalm 24: 1 (NIV)

Community Garden - photo from Gill MorleyIf you’ve been to St John's recently you may have noticed some changes outside by the hedge at the front. There are now four planters containing herbs, flowers and vegetables. As well as helping to brighten up the area, these are for anyone to help themselves to. Please feel free to take a head of lettuce, a sprig of mint or anything else you come across and enjoy them at home.

Over the next few months we hope to expand this, we’ll be planting more beds, meadow flowers, building a pest house, hedgehog house and a bird box. Our aim is to improve this unused area of the church grounds while providing a space people can enjoy as well as some great, healthy produce everyone can benefit from.

We will be holding an opening morning from 10 – 12 on a Saturday in late September to chat about what we are doing. We’d love you to come along and find out more about what we’ve done and talk about opportunities to volunteer to tend to our new community gardens, we’d love you to get involved with a bit of weeding and watering, if you’re interested. Coffee and homemade biscuits will be provided.

You don’t have to wait until the end of September to come down and have a look at the new beds. And please do make sure you take any of the herbs and vegetables ready for picking.

We’re also keen to spread the word about our community garden and really hope this is just the start of something across the village. We’ll be aiming to work with other organisations and community groups across the village to see if there are other areas we can add community gardens available for everyone.
